Our monthly Cleared for Takeoff class met this weekend at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix.  For two hours, fearful flyers shared, learned, and asked Capt. Ron about fear of flying, takeoffs, turbulence, and landings. Capt. Ron  patiently answered questions and made new fear of flying fans  with jokes like these:  “Turbulence bothers me in the cockpit because I have to put...

If you’re a fearful flyer, maybe you’ve had someone who didn’t find your fear of flying real or believable.  Maybe they thought you are making this often debilitating fear up. Like maybe all those tears and all that anxiety qualified you for an academy award or something. ...

I came across this column called Feeding the Fear of Flying about the writer’s fearful flyer husband.  The couple’s solution to cure fear of flying made me smile and reminded me of what we advise fearful flyers to do. The writer described her own fear of heights (which doesn’t bother her in an airplane) and told how her husband has tried everything to get over his fear of flying. ...

The show Inside Edition asked for people to call in and report whether or not the miracle flight of US Airways yesterday made them reluctant to fly.  While some of the US Airways plane still sits in the Hudson River, I’m happy to report that fearful flyers I’ve talked to today are reporting that they are no longer “sitting” in their fear of flying. Keep in mind that the people...

A woman called today to inquire if there was room in our January Cleared for Takeoff class for fear of flying.  Since last month’s Arizona Republic article, we’ve been flooded with calls and email enrollments for our Phoenix class taught by veteran pilot Capt. Ron Nielsen.  It’s great that people are seeking help now that they know about our program! I explained to the woman that I...

I just ran across something about fear that resonated with me.  In conjunction with the new year, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on goal setting,  and I re-watched a five-minute video of a interview with Florida counselor Ken Donaldson that I saw a year ago that had helped me get my butt in gear and set SMART goals I was able to meet. When I watched the same video this year, I heard...

One of the things that you need to do to overcome fear of flying is to fly, and we advocate taking a short practice flight. People who have flown in previous Advanced Classes find it helpful to...

From October 1987 to October 2012, I only took one flight from Phoenix to Minneapolis in 2007 and I was terrified, and made up my mind to never fly again. Then I fell in love online with a Filipina, and knew I had to do something to...
