Chalk up another success story for Fearless Flight!  A former fearful flyer named Dana recently contacted Diane Owens for help in her ongoing quest to overcome her fear of flying.  After watching a video on the Sky Harbor website  about my fear of flying classes, she told Diane that “Capt Ron was a pilot she could relate to.”  She said I seemed like  someone she could...

It’s likely that if you have a fear of flying, you don’t fly very often.  Maybe you even avoid flying altogether.  But just because you have a fear of flying doesn’t mean you won’t have to visit the airport to pick up family, friends, and business associates. Today the weather is horrible in different parts of the country.  Winter can play havoc with the friendly skies,...

Once you’re over your fear of flying, your trips can be like the kind former fearful flyer Rochell just emailed me about.  Rochell just flew from Sydney to Hong Kong, her first overseas flight in 8 years! “Am pleased to report that I had the best experience ever! I was even able to enjoy my holiday and not be filled with dread at the thought of having to get on a plane to return...

People with a fear of flying tend to spend a lot of time worrying about things that can go wrong.  I like to call them the “what if’s” of fear of flying: What if we crash? What if the plane’s too heavy to get off the ground? What if there’s turbulence and the plane can’t take it? What if I can’t take it and have a panic attack on board? And the ultimate…what if I...

A woman called today to inquire if there was room in our January Cleared for Takeoff class for fear of flying.  Since last month’s Arizona Republic article, we’ve been flooded with calls and email enrollments for our Phoenix class taught by veteran pilot Capt. I just ran across something about fear that resonated with me.  In conjunction with the new year, I’ve been doing a lot of reading on goal setting,  and I re-watched a five-minute video of a interview with Florida counselor Ken Donaldson that I saw a year ago that had helped me get my butt in gear and set SMART goals I was able to meet. When I watched the same video this year, I heard...

Part of our Phoenix program for people with a fear of flying involves helping them take an actual flight. So if you’re ready to get on that plane, now is the time to join our October Advanced Class! One of the things that you need to do to overcome fear of flying is to fly, and we advocate taking a short practice flight. People who have flown in previous Advanced Classes find it helpful to...

PBS Frontline aired an excellent documentary recently called “Flying Cheap.” It highlighted the problems with regional airlines—those airlines that supplement major airlines by flying routes not profitable to fly with larger planes.  Frontline chose to air the program on the anniversary of the Colgan Air crash near Buffalo, NY. I was surprised when I saw the special.  And if I was...
