Cleared For Takeoff 201

Overcoming your fear of flying ultimately requires getting on a plane and going somewhere. If you can get to the Phoenix airport, Capt Ron’s CFT 201—The Advanced Class is a good way to go.

The Advanced Class was designed as the capstone to The Basic Class (CFT 101) and The Plane Truth (CFT 102). These three classes rotate every three months. The Advanced Class offers the opportunity to test your new education and coping skills during a short flight (about an hour) to an airport in Southern California. I’ve learned that having a short flight and the satisfaction of saying “I did it!” go a long way to lowering your anxiety before setting off on your own—especially if you haven’t flown for awhile or you have an important trip coming up. The real strength of the class is having Capt Ron to assist you and a group of fellow fearful flyers working toward the same goal: overcoming fear of flying.

While it is recommended that you attend either or both CFT 101 and 102, it isn’t required. Some people just want to take advantage of the personal attention of Capt Ron and the camaraderie of fellow fearful flyers.

In preparation for the class, a webinar that you will be able to access on your computer will be held during the week prior to the Saturday class. That webinar includes a detailed briefing about the flight so you can set your expectations. Being able to set expectations is instrumental in putting yourself in control of your thoughts—the antithesis of the “out-of-control feelings that most fearful flyers feel. Expectations based upon facts help to reduce the amount of anticipatory anxiety—the type of anxiety that triggers most panic attacks. It also provides an opportunity to ask Capt Ron questions all across the spectrum about fear, flying, and the upcoming flight. If you’re unable to attend live, the webinar is recorded so that you can access it later. You’ll also be able to download your own copy to listen to on your iPhone/iPod or other portable electronic device.

The class itself is a daylong event. We meet at the airport on Saturday morning and conduct a short brief to review the highlights of the flight and details important to once again help set your expectations. Immediately after landing at our destination, we will debrief the flight. The debrief is very important to resolve any issues that came up during the flight. Many fearful flyers were “set up” following unpleasant experiences on past flights without the opportunity to follow up and obtain factual explanations as to what they experienced. This is a keystone to becoming a fearless flyer.

Next the fun really begins. We spend the day playing tourist, enjoying activities as a group or just hanging out. This adds to the realism of just what flying is all about—the safest and most efficient way to travel and have fun.

In the early evening, we will return to the airport in preparation for the flight home. Again, Capt Ron goes through a briefing as to what to expect as well as answer questions. This may be an opportunity for some to feel how fear “resets” itself. Perfect timing as Capt Ron is there to provide assurances for the flight home.

The flight home is usually far different from the experience in the morning. Most flyers experience very few of the issues that once troubled them—as recently as arriving at the airport that morning.   A few have even had the previously unknown experience of falling asleep on the way home.

After we deplane in Phoenix, we again will have a short debrief before sending everyone off as newly launched fearless flyers!

This is the only one of our live classes in Phoenix that charges tuition. However, ONLY the student pays the fee—the “Coach” just has to purchase a ticket for the flight.

Click on the class below and you will be taken to a page with detailed instructions about the class, the flight, and a payment form for the tuition. This class is limited in size so don’t be left behind. Register now to reserve your place and stop your fear of flying from keeping you grounded.

I had to go on our corporate jet to Dallas yesterday and come back today. I did well on the trip there! When the turbulence hit I remembered one of the fear of flying solutions and actually tried to enjoy the turbulence! I enjoyed the class…I felt confident and relaxed...
